Reading is my passion, and movies are my love. Here, I will provide short reviews on the movies I’ve seen and the books I’ve read lately. Check them out!

My Sister's Keeper
My Sister’s Keeper
Author: Jodie Picoult
Film Adapation: Yes
This is probably one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. My Sister’s Keeper is about a young girl, Anne, who was conceived for the sole purpose of saving her elder sister’s life. Her sister suffers from a rare cancer and Anne is the only one who can save her life. Time and time again, though perfectly healthy, Anne must accompany her to the hospital for every procedure. Finally, she takes drastic action and sues her parents for “the right to her own body.” From here, the story takes you on a journey to understand love, life and ethics.
This book has it all. Jodie Picoult did an amazing job weaving a story of love, hate, and questions of ethics that sadly have no right answer. Though I anticipated the movie adaptation starring Cameron Diaz, I have yet to see it. This book was incredible, and I don’t want to ruin it by watching the movie.
I give My Sister’s Keeper 4.5 Stars!

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Author: Rick Riordan
Film Adapation: To Be Released 2010
I love to read as it is probably becoming clear to you if you didn’t know already. My little brother, on the other hand, wouldn’t touch a book with a ten foot pole. So when he brought this book-the first in a series of five-I was proud that he had finally found something to read. He couldn’t seem to put it down! I had seen a trailer for the upcoming film adaptation so I decided to see for myself why he loved these books so much.
I have always been a fan of Greek Mythology. For those of you out there who share my passion, I advise you to pick up these books. Riordan has done a wonderful job incorporating ancient Greek Mythology into a modern Harry Potter-style storyline. The series is about the ‘half-blood’ children (with one mortal parent and one parent being a god) of the Greek gods. Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson, a son of Poseidon, must battle monsters, deal with girls, and try not to blow up every school his mom enrolls him in (its not his fault! The monsters keep finding him when hes at school!). Later on in the series, Percy is suspected to be “the Chosen One” who will have to decide the fate of Olympus and the gods on his 16th birthday. I have read all five and I recommend them to you and your kids!
I give Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief 4.0 Stars!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Author: J.K. Rowling
Film Adapation: Yes
This review is not for the book (good as it was) but for the movie. Now I know alot of people have had mixed feelings about this movie but its important to take a few things into consideration. The movies weren’t made so much for the people that have read the books-but for the people that haven’t. The movies have all been made so that the storylines within the movies flow, which is why it may seem like they aren’t true to the books. One example is the ‘burrow scene’ (for those who have seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about, and for those of you who haven’t, I don’t think I’ve spoiled anything, haha). This scene would have made more sense in the 7th movie, but incorporating it into the 6th movie will save them wasting time on unnecessary scenes and explanations.
Overall, the movie was as well made as they could have made it. The special effects were awesome. The character performances were better than they have ever been, and the comic relief was perfectly timed. Director David Yates did a good job sticking to the story as well as he could.
I give Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 4.0 Stars!
